Watauga Lake, TN at 1960' has the highest altitude of all of the TVA lakes. The lake is fed by the Watuaga and Elk Rivers originating in the high mountains of North Carolina and many small creeks and streams in Tennessee. The lake is considered the 3rd cleanest lake in the U.S. with an average depth well over 100' in the main channel and at the dam. The Cherokee National Forest and lands owned by the TVA surrounds the lake providing excellent mountain views with few houses to obstruct these views. A variety of fish can be found in the lake to include: Walleye, Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, Crappie, Large & Small Mouth Bass and many varieties of local lake and river species. Watauga Lake is approximately 20+ miles from end to end and has over 100 miles of shoreline in coves and islands. Pontoon boats are extremely popular and great for finding that quiet get away cove for fishing, swimming or enjoying the beautiful scenery. Pontoons are available for rental from Lake Shore or Fish Springs Marinas'. Larger coves and the main channel are popular for skiing or wake boarding enthusiasts.

Many of Watauga Lake's rental homes are lake front or at least have lake access. The homes are privately owned and most are well furnished and can be considered your "Home away from Home".
