Great fishing awaits the sportsman visiting Watuaga Lake and the surrounding communities of Carter and Johnson Counties. What's better than spending an evening or weekend exploring and fishing the waters of a mountain lake or mountain stream.

Many varieties of sportfish can be found in the lake to include: Black Bass (Large Mouth, Small Mouth and Spotted Bass), Rainbow and Lake Trout, Walleye and Crappie. All except for Bass are frequently stocked at various boat ramps around the lake.

Rodeos and tournaments are held throughout the year for diehard fisherman with excellent prizes or just plain bragging rights. Check out the tourneys on Tuesday, Thursday evenings, and weekends at Rat Branch and Little Milligan Boat Ramps and Fish Springs Marina.

For the fly fishermen check out the numerous rivers and streams feeding Watauga Lake to include: Watauga River, Elk River, Doe Creek, Upper Roan Creek, Stony Creek and Laurel Fork and falls near Hampton. Majority of these streams are stocked on a monthly basis during the spring.

Please follow all Tennessee State fishing guidelines, for the details check out their website at www.tn.gov/twra for more information.
